First, a quick summary of Russian successes.
Those so-called "Free Russians" in Russia, seem to have been driven more or less out of Russia a few days ago. The Ukrainians are now digging trenches inside Ukraine in case the Russians try to enter Ukraine from there. But all in all, this is not really a problem. The Free Russians definitely drew a lot of Russian troops to that region.
The Russians have developed a very successful set of tactics to fight back all along the line. They put their new troops on the front line in the trenches and they keep their experienced troops in reserve. Then if the Ukrainians drive out the inexperienced troops then the experienced ones launch a counter attack. The key weapon they’ve brought into the battle are the KA-52 helicopters. These are the ones with TWO (counter rotating) rotors. They use the artillery and the helicopters to smash any Ukrainian armour. The helicopters scored some hits. This made it very tough for the Ukrainians. However, the Ukrainians have shot down a couple of them in recent days. But this mix of infantry, artillery and helicopters is making Ukrainian advances very difficult.
But Ukrainians have managed to score some big hits. Using their deadly Stormshadow missiles they blew up one of the HQs in the south and in the process killed about 170 Russian Officers.
The biggest news is an incredibly huge explosion south of Melitopol. The Ukrainians managed to blow up an extremely big ammunition dump. This is very important because the goal is to reduce the amount of ammunition that the Russians have access to. This strike was huge and lots of ammunition went up in smoke.
There is other intense fighting with the Ukrainians moving forward slightly … but… there could be more developing in this regard.
