[A French lady was writing to me. She knew about my interest in Napoleon, and I had been looking for some books written by the French, especially by people who personally knew Napoleon. So I was telling her how awesome Napoleon was. Her responses were typically female. Jan]

You make me smile while commenting on Napoleon. It seems that you’re not learning the same history I was taught as a student… To me, he wasted too much human life (his soldiers) finally for nothing (against Russia)… As Hitler did, in a way…
But on the other hand, I’m pleased that learning about him is beneficial to you!
I replied:-
I used to also view warfare negatively, but now that I understand life, I understand why war is NECESSARY. And the main wars are fought for good reasons.
Napoleon was not at fault for the wars. Go and look even at dumb wikipedia or any other source and show me even once where Napoleon started a war.
BRITAIN … started all the wars against France.
Napoleon survived by fighting back. Hitler, when you really get to know his stuff, you’ll see he was the same.
So far, all I’m reading are English versions of memoirs written by people who knew Napoleon personally. I’ve just finished reading the memoirs written by his personal secretary.
Wars cannot go away. Wars are necessary. It has to do with power. People with power NEVER give it up without a fight.
You CANNOT discuss and settle all the problems of the world by words alone. This is IMPOSSIBLE. At a point, war is the ONLY way.
Even among Christians and religious people. The most devastating war in German history was The Thirty Years War. It was like a Christian World War.
And the Christians slaughtered each other. The Christians murdered civilians. Millions died.
War IS NECESSARY. A life of eternal peace, as Christians think of, is (a) impossible (b) it will weaken us.
War is about POWER – ALWAYS. War is NEVER about RIGHT vs WRONG. It is ALWAYS about POWER.
Right and wrong is merely propaganda. The reality is about power.
Napoleon was awesome. I’ve always known this. So is Hitler. So are many others. But Napoleon and Hitler are at the top – in modern times.
If they had succeeded, Europe would have been the most powerful continent on Earth. Both of them were going down that path.
