The Ukraine War is much more static with tiny Ukrainian advances. The Ukrainians ordered a pause. I think they were taking too much losses and they decided to pause to reorganise their troops before they go back and fight. The Ukrainians do not like taking casualties, and they take care of their men and equipment. The Russians on the other hand, throw men in, even when they get slaughtered. They just don’t quit, and it’s not good for morale.
The blowing of the Kakhovka dam was a huge move that stuffed up the Ukrainian work on the other side of the Dnipro river by Kherson. The Ukrainians have been trying for about the last 10 days to get across the river, and they had some attempts that failed. But, third time lucky and they now seem to have managed to get across the river by using a massive bridge that was totally blown up earlier in the war. They’re using small fast boats and they might have as many as 100 troops on the other side now. They seem to be assaulting a village as well. They seem to have managed to get a small but firm bridge head. The Russians tried attacking several times, including with aircraft and armour and artillery and nothing was working.
So the Ukrainians have a small bridgehead and it looks as if they can expand their work using infrantry that they keep moving across.
They do have artillery and anti-aircraft batteries protecting themselves.
The big problem however is that there is no place for them to move armour and artillery across the river. So they need to construct some kind of big pontoon bridge or something, or else they won’t really be able to move forward. Their infantry will only be able to move forward a certain distance and then they won’t be able to advance any more because they will need artillery and aircraft protection.
Without the armour and artillery, they have a problem. So the blowing of that dam really stuffed things up for them. It might take them quite a long time to get a pontoon bridge up and to keep it safe from Russian aerial attack. I think a military pontoon bridge is their best hope.
So unless that happens, nothing big will be able to happen in this offensive.
Perhaps it might take another month.
But at least they are across the Dnipro river and it seems as if the Russians won’t be able to push them back.
It will enable them to draw some Russian troops back from other parts of the frontline.
It may take a while before the Ukrainians begin resuming their counter offensive along all their lines again, and I think this time, the Russian army will be MUCH MORE WEAKENED THAN BEFORE. The Russian army is still taking heavy losses and the Ukrainians blew up another huge Russian ammunition dump a few days ago.
So the Russian army is getting weaker by the day. They’re also destroying quite a lot of artillery every day. So the Russian army will really struggle when they resume operations.
