Putin reveals his family history. For the first time the Russian President spoke openly about his ancestors, saying that his grandfather, Spiridon Putin, worked as a cook first for Vladimir Lenin, and then for Joseph Stalin, in a dacha in the Moscow region.
In a new documentary made by journalist Andrej Kondrashov, the President reflects on the stories told by his father. “When my grandfather worked with Stalin, my father often visited him. He even had the opportunity to enter that house and see how people lived inside,” Putin said. With Stalin’s death, Spiridon Putin and his wife began working in a Communist Party retirement home in Ilyinskoye, Moscow region. Vladimir Putin also added that it was surprising that they were not eliminated, as was the case with many people close to Stalin. “They were probably appreciated for being reliable people.” Putin’s maternal grandfather, Ivan Shelomov, participated in the Second World War on the Eastern Front fighting against Austrian troops. “At one point he noticed that an enemy soldier was aiming at him from the opposite trench. But he shot first,” Putin said. Director Nikita Mikhalkov told the rest of the story in a film. Putin’s grandfather, hearing the groans of the wounded Austrian soldier, decided not to kill him. Instead, he crawled over and bandaged his arm. The enemy soldier kissed his hand in gratitude. Putin then concluded that he considers pity a typical trait of the Russian mentality.
Then could you believe also that Putin has a mysterious past as a stuntman in some Soviet films shot in the 1970s? According to some unconfirmed rumours, it seems that in the 1970s Vladimir Putin took part as a body double or even as a stuntman in at least two films shot at the Lenfilm film studios. The news spread across the Russian press, obviously generating great curiosity. Vasily Shestakov, a former member of the State Duma, attended the same sambo (a Soviet martial art) lessons as the young Vladimir Putin in the 1970s. And it was he who told the Dozhd TV channel that the Russian leader had allegedly participated in the filming of some films. According to rumors, filming took place at the Lenfilm studios in St. Petersburg. Among the films cited are:
two feature films set during World War II. Apparently an old friend of Putin’s, Arkadij Rotenberg, who later became a wealthy impresario and director of the Russian Hockey Federation, also participated. The Russian President’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said he knew nothing about this alleged star past of the current head of the Kremlin. And in the Lenfilm studios there is no register attesting to Putin’s real participation in the filming.
