Canada: Paul Fromm: Maxime Bernier and the People’s Party Cancelled by Media Bias

It has all the earmarks of a "free press" trying to deplatform a populist party that has violated one of the elite’s taboos, calling for a moratorium on immigration. This strong stand by the People’s Party of Canada, caused relatively conservative columnist Matthew Lau of the National Post to declare the PPC deserved to be ignored.

It’s strange. Even if you are a close follower of the print and
electronic media in Canada, you wouldn’t know the populist
People’s Party of Canada is even in the current federal election.
The process was in play last fall. Party founder and leader
Maxime Bernier warned a fundraiser in St. Clement’s, Ontario
that the current media strategy, whatever political shade the
outlet holds (even the “conservative” National Post) is to
deplatform and ignore the PPC. In the 2021 federal election, it
garnered 4.9 per cent of the national vote, up from 1.2 per cent in
its first election in 2019. The Green Party slumped to 2.2 per
cent, but is a media favourite. CBC regularly reports where its
leader is campaigning. As we go to press, April 24, CBC reports
the Green Party static in the polls at 2.2 per cent but the PPC
rising at 1.6 per cent. Yet, the advertisements for CBC Election
Day coverage feature the profiles of the Conservative, Liberal,
Bloc, NDP and Green Party leaders but the People’s Party
leader Maxime Bernier is nowhere to be seen.
