THE RUSSIANS AREN’T THAT CLEVER AT WAR HENCE THEY SUFFER DREADFUL CASUALTIES

My reply to someone during a discussion about the Winter War against the Finns, who were just amazing: Very interesting. The Russians are NOT impressive in warfare. There’s much I can say about the Russian way of war. In the time of Napoleon, the Russians had some pretty good Generals and the troops fought hard, but the Russians are not that clever but they have learned to make up for it, through BRAVERY (Russian soldiers are known for their bravery) and for never quitting and throwing in vast numbers. But this is different to the rest of Western People – especially Germans, French, English, etc. I’ve concluded that Russians are not that good and that is why at the START of most of their wars things go VERY WRONG for long and because they have numbers, they manage over time to learn. This is almost like the People. The People can be clobbered six ways to Sunday easily. However, one thing I must warn you regarding Russian officers leading the troops and suffering 90% casualties. Be aware that in battle, if troops HATE THEIR COMMANDERS, that it’s then easy for troops to shoot their own officers in the back and nobody will notice it in the heat of battle. Yes, some may be shot by accident, but if officers and leaders are HATED, it’s very easy for a soldier to kill them in battle without it being noticed. In Vietnam, you will find that the Americans had quite a number of instances of officers being killed by their own troops. Now this would never happen with the likes of Manstein, Guderian, Caesar, Napoleon. Robert E Lee – they could walk straight into tremendous danger and their troops would RUSH TO BE BY THEIR SIDE AND TO PROTECT THEM AND TO TAKE RISKS ON THEIR BEHALF – because these men are loved and respected. Just keep in mind hatred of soldiers. There are Roman soldiers who killed their own Emperors because they hated them. If soldiers don’t respect their leader they won’t fight for them, and if they really hate them, they will kill them. There is also the Russian practise in WW2 where they set up machine gunners behind troops to shoot them if they retreated. Their only option was to advance to the Germans, and probably, die or retreat and their own people will shoot them. The Russians are the only People I know of who ever did such a thing. No other People functioned like this. It is NOT A GOOD SIGN OF A HEALTHY SOCIETY when your own guys don’t want to fight. It’s a sign of other sicknesses in society. The Russo Japanese war was a fascinating short war. I’m short of time so I’m not going to look up Port Arthur. I’m aware of it. But in that war, the Japanese victory over a fleet was a shock to all of Europe. That had not been done before.
