Data compiled by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), Japan’s Meteorological Agency (JMA), the UK Meteorological Office/Hadley Center’s Climate Research Unit, the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) all show the Earth gradually heating up since the late 19th century.
The global data for near-surface temperatures comes from onshore weather stations as well as from ship, buoys and satellite measurements of the oceans. According to scientific findings, the continuing global warming will lead to changes in the strength, frequency, spatial extent and duration of extreme weather events (floods, wildfire, drought, tornadoes, hurricanes).
This is also the consensus opinion of scientists publishing in the peer-reviewed literature agree with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the National Academy of Sciences, the American Meteorological Society (AMS), the American Geophysical Union (AGU), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the The Institute of Physics (IOP).
Scientists at NOAA are already projecting that 2020 will end up being the hottest year ever recorded. As of now, 2016 holds that record.
