[This is from a Christian prophecy magazine. Believe it or not, but in the 1970s in Rhodesia we got The Trumpet and we would read it's apocalyptic prophecies. One thing I don't like about it is its anti-German stance. It still thinks the Germans are the enemy. Jan]
When a nation succumbs to lawlessness
BY ABRAHAM BLONDEAU • MARCH 11, 2024
In Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince, dead bodies litter the streets. Many have died from bullet wounds inflicted by roving gangs and had their shoes stolen by their murderers. Coroners dare not collect the bodies, lest they also become victims. The smell of rotting flesh has grown so bad that local residents are burning the bodies. In 92-degree March heat, the fires are growing unbearable. All that is left behind is piles of ash around white protruding bones—the only evidence that these victims ever existed.
Law and order are nonexistent. Police have been seen selling fuel on the black market. The airport is under assault. Hospitals are closed and most public services have ceased. Diseases are beginning to break out among the civilian population. People are scavenging for food and water to survive.
Violent gangs are roaming the streets unchecked. The United Nations estimate that 80 percent of the capital is controlled by criminal gangs. The situation is so dire acting President Ariel Henry, after a diplomatic trip to Kenya, has been unable to reenter the country. The United States has evacuated key personnel from its embassy.
The Washington Post reports:
Trash piled up in its slums; cholera had resurfaced. The gangs terrorized the population with systematic rape, indiscriminate kidnapping and mass killing, all with impunity. Then attacks on two of the city’s largest prisons last weekend freed thousands of inmates, including some of the country’s most notorious criminals. Now the gangs, reinforced by returning comrades, have attacked the city’s airport and main port. They’ve torched at least a dozen police stations.
The most influential gang leader is Jimmy Cherizier, nicknamed “Barbeque.” A former member of the Haitian police, he leads the G9 and Family gang that controls most of the gang activity. Cherizier is demanding that Henry resign or face civil war. There are also reports of gang members cannibalizing their victims.
Haiti is on the precipice of falling into the abyss of lawlessness. How did this happen?
This situation brings some uncomfortable truths to the forefront. It is also a warning of uncomfortable Bible prophecies for our nations today. Don’t allow your discomfort to drown out this divine warning.
Few nations have suffered as many curses as Haiti. Ever since it overthrew its French colonial overlords in 1804, the nation has been pummeled by disease outbreaks, natural disasters, coups, violence and poverty. It has been a nation that has never gotten on its feet and has been subject to foreign intervention.
Perhaps its most significant modern turning point was the 2010 earthquake. When the 7.0-magnitude quake struck, over 3.5 million people were affected. Nearly 80 percent of the country’s infrastructure was destroyed, 250,000 people were killed, and a further 300,000 injured. The country lay in shambles.
It was in this crisis that President Barack Obama came to the nation’s rescue. Pledging hundreds of millions of dollars in relief (and later billions), President Obama promised on Jan. 16, 2010 to rebuild the nation:
To the people of Haiti, we say clearly, and with conviction, you will not be forsaken; you will not be forgotten. In this, your hour of greatest need, America stands with you. The world stands with you. We know that you are a strong and resilient people. You have endured a history of slavery and struggle, of natural disaster and recovery. And through it all, your spirit has been unbroken and your faith has been unwavering. So today, you must know that help is arriving—much, much more help is on the way.
Obama also ordered that any Haitians who were under threat of deportation from the U.S. due to entering the country illegally be granted an exemption. He was seen by many Haitians as the savior of the nation.
Over $13 billion was sent from around the world to the stricken nation. Bill Clinton, affectionately known in Haiti as Le Gouverneur, leading the Clinton Foundation and Hillary Clinton leading the State Department were dispatched as the face of the rebuilding effort. Hopes were high. But it soon became clear that all the money, foreign relief, aid and media attention were not enough to bring the country out of its cycle of curses.
The United States had been involved in Haitian politics from the early 20th century, and this continued under Obama’s presidency. The complex labyrinth of Haitian loyalties and constant military coups made the imposition of democracy almost impossible. This made American influence and backing of candidates a key to power.
While the world was distracted in 2011 by the Arab Spring and Fukushima disaster in Japan, the Obama government was meddling in the Haitian election. Jean Bertrand-Astride, twice the fairly elected president of Haiti, was forced to flee into exile twice because of military coups (he had been restored to power in 1994 by a military intervention led by President Clinton). Being a very popular leader, his Lavalas party was banned from participating in the 2010 run-offs due to unproven allegations of voter fraud.
“The initial November 28 vote was so troubled by fraud, disorganization, instances of violence and voter intimidation that 12 of the 19 candidates including the front-runners initially called for it to be tossed out,” reported nbc News. “The Washington-based Center for Economic and Policy Research, a left-leaning think tank, said it should be invalid because of widespread errors and fraud and because nearly three-quarters of registered voters did not vote because the most popular party, Lavalas, was banned.”
Despite this sham of an election, and Obama’s direct interference by trying to prevent Astride from returning, the U.S. supported the winner Michael Martelly (who had ties with the Clinton family). The corrupt Martelly government (recently indicted for having ties to drug-trafficking gangs in Haiti) survived until 2016, when instead of resigning as law prescribed, Martelly tried to steal the election for his successor, Jovenel Moise. The U.S. State Department spent $33 million on a “get out to vote” initiative in Haiti.
The Nation wrote about the 2016 election: “After the first round of voting, on October 25, the election commission announced with a straight face that the government’s candidate, Jovenel Moïse, had come in first with 32.81 percent of the vote. Moïse almost certainly got less than 10 percent, and widespread ballot stuffing was verified by the respected National Human Rights Defense Network and other local groups.” Despite this fact, the U.S. did not object to the results of the election.
The Nation continued: “Over the past week, tens of thousands of angry demonstrators regularly chanted ‘Down with Obama’ and carried ‘Obama Terrorist’ banners as they marched through the streets, protesting American complicity in the Haitian government’s blatant effort to rig the presidential election.” Moise took the presidency but was viewed by many Haitians as illegitimate. Near the time of the election, Obama reversed course and started deporting Haitians back to their country.
In 2021, President Moise was tortured and assassinated in his home. His death plunged the nation into its most recent bout of violence. Ariel Henry, unelected and unwilling to give up power, became the acting prime minister and president of Haiti with the blessing of Joe Biden. In a nation with 34 coups recorded in its history, violence was inevitable. Except now the criminal gangs have the power and may decide who leads Haiti next.
It is debated how much Obama passively or actively interfered in Haitian elections and politics, but one fact remains clear: Everything Obama touched in Haiti turned into a disaster. The country is worse off than when he made his promise on Jan. 16, 2010. “Never forgotten and never forsaken”? The fruits of Obama’s policies have taken a nation already cursed with poverty, violence and corruption into the depths of lawlessness.
As the Haiti tragedy plays out, it is a stark warning for the U.S. and Western nations today. It is a hard truth to admit, but our nations are closer to becoming Haiti than we think.
Look at the news headlines: rising gang violence, rising crime and murders, police forces disappearing, increased sickness, diminished public services, corrupt governments, stolen elections. America has it all, and Obama was the architect deliberately bringing these crises on the nation. He has deliberately accelerated America’s plunge into lawlessness. Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry’s book America Under Attack brings this truth to light.
However, what makes Haiti such a stark warning to the U.S. is the Bible prophecies foretelling of the exact same state of chaos. Ezekiel 5:12 warns that as our society is consumed first by sin and then by these curses, one third of our people will die from riots and pestilence! Isaiah 1:7 warns: “Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.”
Mr. Flurry warns in Ezekiel—The End-Time Prophet:
The pestilence, or plague of violence, will cause many health problems that lead to famine. Sewage disposal will be disrupted. Gas lines will be broken. Jobs will be lost. Society will unravel and the collective panic will bring a stock market disaster! It will get so bad that violence and famine will take millions of lives! … We are getting dangerously close to social anarchy and chaos!
We had a small taste of this during the “summer of love” riots in 2016, and Haiti shows us what happens when society completely breaks down. Deuteronomy 28:56-57 even prophesy of the coming cannibalism. The images coming out of Haiti will one day be on America’s streets, only it will be much worse.
This is where Barack Obama’s policies are leading us. But this terrible future has been authored by our own sins. However, God promises to intervene and give America one more chance to repent before these prophecies are fulfilled. Will you listen to the warning from Haiti?
