Many anti-Trumpers insisted throughout President Trump’s four years in office that he was not their president, and a surprisingly high number of voters feel the same way about President-elect Biden.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just 56% of Likely U.S. Voters feel that Biden is their president. Thirty-four percent (34%) say he is not, while 10% more are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
Slightly fewer voters (52%) say their family and friends consider Biden their president. Thirty-two percent (32%) say they do not, with another 16% undecided.

Eighty-four percent (84%) of Democrats recognize fellow Democrat Biden as their president, but only 28% of Republicans and 51% of voters not affiliated with either major party agree. Sixty-one percent (61%) of Republicans and 34% of unaffiliateds say Biden is not their president.

The survey of 1,000 Likely U.S. Voters was conducted December 15-16, 2020 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
Looking back at the presidential election, Trump voters overwhelmingly say they voted for the president, but only 56% of Biden voters say they were voting for him rather than against the president.
The older the voter, the more likely they are to say Biden is not their president.
Men see Biden as their president more than women do. Women are more likely to be undecided.
Blacks (67%) feel more strongly than whites (52%) and other minority voters (62%) that Biden is their president and are even more convinced that family and friends agree.
Seventy percent (70%) of voters who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing say Biden is not their president. Among those who Strongly Disapprove of Trump’s job performance, 90% say Biden is.
Most voters suspect the news media buried the Hunter Biden story until after the election and think there’s a good chance that Biden was involved in his son’s questionable overseas dealings.
