[There are so many misquotes and outright lies about Hitler. And Jews just pour in with endless lies about Hitler, the Germans, the NAZIS, the SS. The Jewish crap never ends. This seems to be a pretty decent answer to the above, and it seems to me, in a nutshell, that despite what the author concludes, that Hitler never said or wrote anything like this actually. I cannot see how these quotes lead directly to that. I suspect that Jews have been at work as usual, misrepresenting Hitler. That's my take on this. Jan]

Did Hitler say "If you want to shine like the sun, first you have to burn like it" or is that a misattribution?
So, a girl at my son’s high school put that in her yearbook and even attributed it to Adolph Hitler. Looking around, however, the only source for it seems to be Mein Kampf, although doing a text search of the word "sun" in Mein Kampf does not yield a result.

It also appears on the internet as credited to an A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The Reply:
So I searched through Mein Kampf myself, and the exact quotation does not appear anywhere. However, I did find a passage that seems like it could possibly be loosely paraphrased in that manner. This is the translation from the Stalag Edition (and roughly the same in the Murphy Edition):

As long as the historical memory of Frederick the Great, for instance, still lives, Frederick Ebert can arouse only a problematic admiration. The relation of the hero of Sans Souci to the former republican of Bremen may be compared to that of the sun to the moon; for the moon can shine only after the direct rays of the sun have left the earth. Thus we can readily understand why it is that all the new moons in human history have hated the fixed stars. In the field of politics, if Fate should happen temporarily to place the ruling power in the hands of those nonentities they are not only eager to defile and revile the past but at the same time they will use all means to evade criticism of their own acts. The Law for the Protection of the Republic, which the new German State enacted, may be taken as one example of this truth.

Alternatively translated in the Reynal & Hitchcock edition as:

As long as, for example, the historical memory of a Frederick the Great has not died, a Friedrich Ebert is only able to create moderate astonishment. The hero of Sans Souci is to the former barkeeper of Bremen approximately like the sun is to the moon. Only when the rays of the sun are gone is the moon able to shine. Therefore, the hatred of all new moons of humanity towards their fixed stars is only too understandable. In political life such naughts usually, if Fate throws the reign temporarily into their laps, not only soil and stain the past with untiring zeal, but they also withdraw themselves, by extreme measures, from general criticism. As an example for this the protective legislation of the Republic may be considered.

And finally from (edit) the Manheim translation:

As long, for example, as the historical memory of Frederick the Great is not dead, Friedrich Ebert can arouse nothing but limited amazement. The hero of Sans-Souci is to the former Bremen saloon keeper approximately as the sun to the moon; only when the rays of the sun die can the moon shine. Consequently, the hatred of all new moons of humanity for the fixed stars is only too comprehensible. In political life, such nonentities, if Fate temporarily casts power in their lap, not only besmirch and befoul the past with untiring zeal, but also remove themselves from general criticism by the most extreme methods. The new German Reich’s legislation for the defense of the Republic may pass as an example of this.

So anyways, this would seem to be the most likely source of the quotation.
