A farm attack took place on 3 July 2022, on the farm Morgenzon in Paulpietersburg near Vryheid, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Three attackers overpowered Amanda and Lothar Klingenberg (57) when they arrived at their home. Two were armed with firearms and the third with a knife.
Lothar was violently assaulted and shot in the upper leg, he was then tied up and left in a storeroom.
Amanda, who was also violently assaulted lay on the ground and pretended to be unconscious while the attackers robbed her of her work phone. While the attackers were ransacking the home she managed to retrieve her personal phone and raise the alarm.
Their son Dillon responded and arrived on the farm to find one of the attackers still in the house.
The attacker pointed a firearm at him and he too drew his firearm causing the attacker to dart for cover behind a wall before Dillon could open fire. All three attackers then fled on foot.
Lothar lost a lot of blood. He was attended to by a responding doctor before being taken to Newcastle Hospital.
All role players, including local farmers, responded but there were no arrests.
There is no other information available at this stage.
