The Russian propagandists on TV are having a hard time trying to explain how Russian managed to get into this fix. It is very difficult for them because they are led by a wise leader who knows everything and who is infallible.
So to their own audiences they are engaging in all kinds of mental gymnastics to explain why things are going wrong.
The Russians have a tradition, which comes from the Mongols and it is an Asiatic type of thinking, that a STRONG RULER is preferable to CHAOS. They always prefer STRENGTH over CHAOS. Of course when Hitler and Mussolini provided strength to their nations the Jews and their scum (aka Britain and America) then cried and whined about how evil a DICTATOR IS. But the hypocrites ignored the DICTATOR of the Soviet Union, Stalin who was more of a dictator and really brutal.
The Russians have through all their existence thought like this even with the Tsars, and all their leaders, even after the Jews killed their White Christian leading family. The Russians merely replace one form of authoritarian rule with another. Democracy is a minor issue for them.
So a leader like Putin, is, according to the views of what the average Russian has been taught, APPOINTED BY GOD and therefore he is also INFALLIBLE. The Russian leader knows best. He is, essentially, God’s guy who is ruling them for their greatness.
This presents Putin with a serious problem. If Putin the Infallible, makes mistakes, then it will shock Russian society. The Russians will be shocked if their leader is somehow making a mistake. It can also lead to the demise of Putin.
The Russians also do not believe fully in the truth. For them, there is "tactical truth", which basically is a short term lie, which they are allowed to tell for the benefit of Russia.
The Russian language contains 3 words for the truth. Only one of those words is for the ABSOLUTE TRUTH. The others are for "variations" on the truth, in other words, partial lies.
So failure on the battlefield can come as a shock to the Russians and as an existential threat to Putin.
