[Yet another senseless murder of a white woman in South Africa. The pile of dead whites grows, and will continue to grow, until we can stand up for ourselves. Jan]
A 29-year-old Greenbushes man was arrested on Thursday afternoon, 14 May 2020, by SAPS Kabega Park members for the alleged murder and robbery of an elderly couple at their home in Rowallan Park on Saturday, 9 May 2020.
It is alleged that between 10:30 and 11:30, the couple were at home when an unknown suspect entered through the unlocked back door of their house in Maasdorp Street. The suspect accosted Mrs Martha Snyman (83) in the passage in the house. In the altercation, Mrs Snyman’s head was pushed against and she fell.
The suspect then went to the lounge where he accosted Mr David Snyman (76). Two cellphones, cash, jewelry and other household items were taken. Mr Snyman sustained slight injuries to his head. Mrs Snyman succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
On Thursday, 14 May 2020, SAPS Kabega Park members received information about a possible suspect in the Kuyga area. Information was immediately followed up and the 29-year-old male was detained for further questioning. Follow-up investigation on Friday, 15 May 2020 led members of the Mount Road Cluster Detective Trio Task team and the K9 Unit members to several houses in the Kuyga area where most of the stolen items were recovered. Police recovered Mrs Snyman’s diamond ring, 2 cellphones, a DVD player, a watch and a jacket. The suspect had already sold the stolen goods to several people.
He was charged with murder and house robbery and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 May 2020.
The Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major General Thembisile Patekile commended the teams for their swift investigation and arrest of the suspect. ‘The SAPS has an inherent responsibility to ensure that the elderly are safe and secure, therefore we will be working in close collaboration with the prosecuting authority to ensure a successful prosecution,’ added Major General Patekile.
