Mary-Kate Olsen is seeking a divorce from her financier husband Olivier Sarkozy after five years of marriage. But so far, her filing has not gone through because of issues related to COVID-19 and the fact that only filings about essential/emergency matters are being accepted by New York courts.
"The original filing was rejected by the New York County Clerk because they did not follow the essential matter procedure," New York courts spokesperson Lucian Chalfen told USA TODAY in an email.

Chalfen says that Olsen’s team refiled for divorce "under the essential matter procedure," but the matter was deemed non-essential, "so they can’t file anything at this point."
According to a New York courts memo, the essential functions of family court in New York include, but are not limited to "child protection proceedings, juvenile delinquency proceedings, family offenses and emergency support orders, and other as the court may allow."
The notoriously private actress and fashion designer sought to end her marriage to the French banker through a petition for divorce on April 17, reports and .

Olsen moved forward with an emergency order after she claims Sarkozy terminated their New York lease without her consent and gave her a May 18 deadline to retrieve her belongings, according to the court documents.
The divorce petition would protect Olsen’s belongings from being disposed of.
Olsen’s representative declined to comment to USA TODAY.
Olsen, 33, and Sarkozy, 50, the half-brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, tied the knot in November 2015 in New York City after three years of dating. The couple have no children together, although Sarkozy has two from a previous relationship.
Along with sister Ashley Olsen, the Olsen twins might just be the most recognizable (and successful) twins in the entertainment industry. They became ’90s icons in TV and movies, but left the limelight in adulthood to transition to fashion designers, and have remained relatively mum on their personal lives.
