The national-conservative and Eurosceptic Dutch party boycotted Zelensky’s speech to the Dutch parliament last month, calling it a breach of a nearly two-century-old democratic tradition that bars foreign heads of state from addressing the House of Representatives.
The party also expressed concern about Zelensky’s ban on political parties, including the main opposition party, and the closure of dissident television channels.
The Forum for Democracy did not say where it got its estimate of $850 million.
Ilya Kiva, a Ukrainian opposition MP who was stripped of his mandate last month, claims that "hundreds of millions of dollars" are being transferred to accounts controlled by the President’s office, where they are not only used by Zelensky and his associates, but also being plundered by "Western politicians who receive bribes for supporting their countries”. Kiva has claimed that Zelensky’s earnings have increased to "$100 million a month" recently.
Before becoming president in 2019, Zelensky co-owned the TV channel Kvartal 95, which he co-founded in 2003.
Last week, Volodymyr Landa, deputy editor of Forbes Ukraine, said the company makes about $20-30 million a year, with Zelensky owning a 25 percent stake.
Prior to the 2019 election, Zelensky’s family also acquired a 25 percent interest in Maltex Multicapital Corp, a British Virgin Islands tax haven, through a separate Belize-registered shell company, Film Heritage, according to the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project.
Zelensky stressed after the election that he had relinquished his stake in the company and has not mentioned the company on any of his tax returns since 2018.
However, in October 2021 the OCCRP reported that the President, his family and members of his inner circle have remained attached to Maltex and operate a whole network of shady offshore firms, at least two of which are used to buy property in London near the famous Baker Street 221B and the Houses of Parliament were used.
Ihor Kolomoisky, a Ukrainian oligarch who massively supported Zelensky’s 2019 election campaign, was himself accused of stealing $5.5 billion from PrivatBank, Ukraine’s largest commercial lender, and shipping it abroad. When the media reported on the offshore revelations late last year, Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to Zelensky’s chief of staff, assured Zelensky that the president had been forced to set up the offshore firms to protect his revenues from the "aggressive measures" of the "corrupt" to "protect" the government of President Viktor Yanukovych. "The journalists have in fact confirmed that the President fully respects the norms of anti-corruption legislation," said Podoliak.
Yanukovych was overthrown in a 2014 Western-backed coup that sparked the Ukraine crisis that lingers to this day.
